After Punjabi, Marathi and Sikkimese movies, Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures is now investing close to Rs 2.8 crore in Jahnu Barua’s film Bhoga Khirikee (Broken Window).
The film, starring Zerifa Wahid and Seema Biswas as lead actors, has just finished its shooting schedule in Assam. With a budget of close to Rs 3.5 crore the film is also looking at a national and international release.
The film is being co-produced by Easterly Entertainment. Slated for a November-December release the film is shot in Assamese and shall be followed by a dubbed version before its national release.
“We plan to have a Hindi dubbed version for the national release outside Assam and that would be followed by a sub-titled version for the international release,” said Sandeep Bharghava, CEO, Purple Pebble Pictures.
“We are planning to take the film to some major international film festival including Cannes,” Bhargava added.
Given Chopra is the state’s Tourism Ambassador, Bhoga Khirkee has got immense help from the government too. Not without a reason though. The government is doing their best to promote Assam in terms of tourism and increase their inbound traffic from both national and international travelers.
Footfall of international tourists in 2017 has doubled from 2016 and the tourism department wants to build on it.
“We have a single window clearance for shooting a film in Assam and according to our new tourism policy of 2017 a special incentive package in the form of logistic support within Assam is provided to the film producers to kick start their project,” said Kausar J Hilaly, managing Director, Assam Tourism.
Bhoga Khirikee is not the first film targeted at promoting the state.
