HDFC Mutual Fund has increased its weightage in the oil & gas, metals & mining and banking & financial services sectors, while slashed its exposure in the pharmaceuticals, engineering & capital goods and cement & construction space.
ITC, Reliance Industries and Sterlite Industries were the top buys, while Petronet LNG, NHPC and Nagarjuna Construction were the top sells. A study of the HDFC Mutual Fund portfolio for the month of January 2011 showed that in the oil & gas space, the fund purchased Reliance Industries, GAIL India and IOC. However, it sold ONGC, Petronet LNG and Oil India. (View - All Bulk Deals by Mutual Funds). In the metals & mining segment, it bought Tata Steel, Sterlite Industries and Hindalco Industries, while it sold ISMT. It bought SBI, ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank in the banking & financial services sector. But it exited Punjab & Sind Bank and LIC Housing Finance in the same space. Also it sold HDFC, Axis Bank and Punjab National Bank. The selling was seen in the pharmaceuticals pack, where it sold Biocon, Sun Pharma and Cipla. It also exited Suven Life Sciences. In the engineering & capital goods sector, the fund exited Gujarat Pipavav Port and sold L&T and KEC International. But it purchased Kirloskar Pneumatic, Atlas Copco and Carborundum Universal. It sold Nagarjuna Construction, Sadbhav Engineering and Simplex Infrastructures in the cement & construction space.
