Credit card spending rises 6% in July to Rs 1.94 lakh crore, shows RBI data

The data also showed that new credit card issuance increased by 4.26 lakh to 11.1623 crore in July.

The total credit spending rose 6 percent in July to Rs 1.94 lakh crore, as compared to Rs 1.83 lakh crore in June, according to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) data.

The POS (point of sale) based transactions with credit cards saw an increase of 4.3 percent to reach Rs 70,380 crore in July, and other card transactions rose 6.7 percent in one month to reach Rs 1,23,469 crore.

The data also showed that new credit card issuance increased by 4.26 lakh to 11.1623 crore in July.

The number of debit cards in July 2025 stood at 101 crore, as compared to 96.32 crore in July last year.

The number of QR codes issued stood at 68.81 crore in July, as compared to 67.83 crore in June, data showed. Similarly, micro ATMs increased to 1.47 crore in July, as compared to 1.46 crore.

Total UPI payments touched Rs 25 lakh crore in July 2024, 4 percent higher than the June data of Rs 24.03 lakh crore. In July 2024, the corresponding data stood at Rs 20.64 lakh crore, according to the RBI data.
