'Total' lockdown extended in Thane district, Navi Mumbai, UMC
A lockdown with minimum exemptions in place in Thane district, excluding city limits, and Navi Mumbai municipal areas was extended onJuly 11, till July 19 due to rise in coronavirus cases over the past few days, officials said.
The order for Thane district was issued by Collector Rajesh Narvekar and Municipal Commissioner AB Misal announced the extension for Navi Mumbai, they added.

India's COVID-19 recoveries cross 5-lakh mark, recovery rate at 62.78%
The number of COVID-19 patients who have recovered in the country crossed the five-lakh mark on Saturday, the Union Health ministry said and attributed it to a number of measures taken by the Centre and the state governments, including implementation of containment zones and surveillance activities. India's COVID-19 tallysurged to 8,20,916 on Saturday while the death toll climbed to 22,123 with 519 people succumbing to the disease in 24 hours, according to the health ministry's data updated at 8 am.
A series of proactive, preemptive and coordinated measures have been taken by the Centre and the state governments for containment and prevention of COVID-19, it said.

PM Narendra Modi reviews India's COVID-19 preparedness, says 'no room for complacency'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 11 chaired a meeting to review India's COVID-19 situation and preparedness. Thereview meeting was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Cabinet Secretary and other seniorgovernment officials, among others.
The prime ministertookstock of the situation in various parts of the country and the preparedness of various states. He reiterated the "need to observe personal hygiene and social discipline in public places". Bihar govt instructs medical colleges to prepare 100 beds for treatment of COVID-19 patients
Taking note of the rising cases of coronavirus in the state, the Bihar government has written to nine medical colleges to identify 50 percent of their capacity, which is almost 100 beds, that the institutions must accommodate towards the treatment of COVID-19 patients.
“In view of the increasing number of COVID-19 patients, with the aim of developing better management for their treatment, all 38 districts of the state have been linked to nine medical college hospitals,” the government said in a press release.

The COVID-19 tally in Tripura rose to 1,932 after 141 more people tested positive for the virus in the state, officials said today.
Of the 141 new cases, 63 are from Khowai district, 35 from West district, 15 from Dhalai district, 10 from Gomati district, 11 from Sepahijala district, six from South district and one from North Tripura district, they said.
There are 545 active cases in the state while 1,372 patients have recovered from the infection, one person has died and 14 persons have migrated to other states, the officials said. (PTI)

WHO believes 'unknown pneumonia' in Kazakhstan could be COVID-19
The emergencies chief of the World Health Organization says the agency believes an unexplained pneumonia outbreak in Kazakhstan is likely due to the coronavirus.
Dr Michael Ryan says Kazakh authorities have reported more than 10,000 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last week and just under 50,000 cases and 264 deaths as of Tuesday.
"We're looking at the actual testing and the quality of testing to make sure that there haven't been false negative tests for some of those other pneumonias that are provisionally tested negative," Ryan said.
He added that many pneumonia cases were likely to be COVID-19 and just have not been diagnosed correctly. (PTI)

Sri Lanka's top election official Mahinda Deshapriya has expressed concern over the delay in enforcing the COVID-19 health guidelines for the August 5 parliamentary elections, noting that the campaigners were defying measures to contain the spread of the disease which could endanger public safety.

Strict lockdown restrictions have been reimposed in parts of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district following a spike in coronavirus cases, officials said. The entire Rajouri city and adjoining areas were sealed and people were asked to stay indoors as part of the efforts to slow the spread of the infection, they said.
"The restrictions were reimposed as a precautionary measure after some locals were tested positive for COVID-19. While in most cases the source of the infection is known, there are some cases where the source is unknown," Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Sher Singh told PTI.

The ministry also reported an improvement in the number of recoveries with 1,53,134 patients discharged from hospitals and health centres across the country so far, reported news agency PTI.
