The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered GMR (the operator of the Delhi international airport) to stop collecting airport development fee (ADF) from passengers for at least three weeks. The court has advised the company to go to the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), saying that the final determination on levy of ADF will be done by the appellate authority. For now, the operator has suspended collection of the fee, confirmed chief financial officer of airports Sidharath Kapur. "This is a procedure-related suspension. The HC order does not question chargeability of ADF. Also, we have no plans to appeal against the High Court order," he said. Airport developers are allowed to charge user development fee (UDF) from airlines, which contribute to an airport's revenue, and ADF that contributes to the funding of the project.
