Sources indicate that though the roads ministry is no mood to rollback its decision on Quadricycles, but some technical changes may be in the offing, reports CNBC-TV18’s Ronojoy Banerjee.
Despite the opposition by some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the government sources in fact are maintaining that there is simply no question of a rollback on Quadricycles.
The government is going to reexamine, reassess some of the specifications that they had mentioned in the draft notification that was issued on August 26.
The one month window that was given for stake holder consultations, stake holder recommendations expires on September 26.
On that day the government will be holding a meeting and will deliberate over the various recommendations they have got from companies like Tata Motors, TVS Motor and also from various consumers.
The government could be looking at one specification concerning weight of the vehicle, which had become a bone of contention.
In the draft notification the maximum weight for a Quadricycle is given at 450 kilograms and 550 kilograms in case of a cargo Quadricycle. However, as reported in the past, Tata Motors wants an increase in the weight. This could be one of the specifications that the government is open to have a relook into.
A file on this will be shortly put up before the roads minister Oscar Fernandes after September 26.
One will have to wait and watch the decision that the minister takes. We are being told two weeks after September 26 there will be a decision on this issue.
