Beautiful and artistic vases have long been a staple in home décor, serving not only as functional containers for flowers but also as style statements that can elevate the aesthetic of any space. From ancient times to modern interiors, the versatility and beauty of vases have made them an enduring element in decorating traditions across cultures.

In India, vases come in a multitude of styles, each bringing its own unique charm to home décor. From classic ceramic to glass, metal, wooden and bone china – there are multiple materials and designs for the segment. Anandita Kothari, founder of décor brand Plate & Peonie, says, “Using vases in your home can enhance your décor by adding colour, texture, and a sense of personality to different spaces. Smaller vases can be utilised on the dining table, on your bedroom side table, or bathroom countertops and shelfs, each add a simple touch of elegance and thoughtfulness. On the other hand, larger vases can work well in open areas or as floor pieces whether that be in your entry way or your living room.”

The décor expert recommends matching the colour and design of the vase to the room’s decor. For example, sleek and modern vases suit contemporary spaces while rustic and vintage pots fit traditional styles. Speaking about the latest trends in vases, Kothari adds, “There are definitely two trends we’re seeing with vases these days. One trend would be customers purchasing neutral and earthy forward vases with materials such as rattan and raffia. The other trend we see is maximalism, with prints and textures that truly catch one's eye the minute you walk into a room with its vibrant colours and hues.”

When selecting a vase, consider the following factors to ensure it complements your décor. The size of the vase should be in proportion to the space and the flowers or items it will hold. A large vase can overwhelm a small table, while a tiny vase may get lost on a large surface. Choose a vase that matches or contrasts well with your existing décor.
