With over 18 million new cancer cases diagnosed annually, the multifaceted battle against this disease necessitates a comprehensive approach. From addressing lifestyle factors to managing the physical and psychological impacts of cancer, the ancient practice of yoga emerges as a valuable ally to conventional cancer treatments.

Recent studies have highlighted the potential of yoga in reducing cancer recurrence and metastasis. The practice of yoga comprises physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation, offering a holistic approach to improving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Research suggests that yoga can effectively address cancer-related fatigue, improve sleep quality, enhance flexibility, and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in cancer patients. Additionally, yoga's anti-inflammatory properties may play a role in inhibiting tumour growth and reducing treatment-related side effects, says Dr Sunny Malik, consultant department of anaesthesiology and critical care & pain medicine, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC).
