The sudden demise of celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg on September 19, 2025, has left the music world in shock. The 52-year-old icon, best known for lending his powerful voice to the evergreen track Ya Ali from Gangster (2006), died in Singapore following a scuba diving accident.

According to reports, he lost consciousness underwater, was rescued by Singapore police, and rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite intensive medical care, doctors could not revive him. Zubeen was in Singapore to perform at the North East Festival the following day. His untimely passing has created an irreplaceable void in the Indian music industry and among millions of fans who grew up with his songs.

This is not the first time the legendary singer’s health had made headlines. Back in March 2020, Zubeen Garg collapsed during an event at the Gauhati Town Club, Guwahati, which sent shockwaves across Assam. Attendees panicked when they saw the singer lose consciousness mid-event. People rushed to help, tried to give him water, and held him before he was immediately shifted to Nemcare Hospital.
