One incident, which took place at a director's office on Mumbai's Veera Desai Road, left her startled. "I must have experienced the casting couch multiple times," Chawla stated. She detailed how, after a meeting where they even discussed her married life, the director tried to kiss her goodbye at the door.2 "I was startled and asked him what he was doing, and I just walked off," she recalled, emphasizing the brazenness of the act despite his knowledge of her marital status.3

Chawla clarified that this was not an isolated event. She also shared a deeply disturbing experience from the South Indian film industry, where a director, who could not speak Hindi or English, used a friend as an interpreter to convey his explicit demand that she sleeps with him during the shoot.
