Puri Jagannadh, the man behind blockbuster hit films such as Paisa Vasool, Pokiri, Temper and Desamuduru, is all set to begin his next film, Beggar, with Vijay Sethupathi. Puri's career saw a downfall after films like Liger and Double iSmart ended as disasters at the box office like never before.
Bigger is said to be billed as a script-driven film rich in emotions—a departure from Puri’s regular commercial, massy, heterocentric cinema. This film will be completely new in terms of experimentation.
According to Deccan Chronicle, the movie is going to be high on emotions and concepts, and this is something Puri has not tried before. Beggar marks his debut in the Tamil film industry, and it looks like it is going to be a strong one as well.
Fresh off the success of Maharaja, in which he played a brooding, revenge-seeking father, Vijay Sethupathi is rumoured to be undertaking a makeover for Beggar. His appearance, body language and sheer screen presence will be unlike anything we’ve seen before.
Keeping up with his previous records, that of fast-track filmmaking, Puri intends to wrap up Beggar within 65 days. It’s a compressed schedule, but one he has pulled off with aplomb before — most famously with Businessman, which was completed in 72 days and became a mammoth hit.

Redemption after setbacks
Beggar is one more chance for the comeback of Puri Jagannadh, ever since Liger met with bad reviews and Double iSmart got mixed ones. The director is said to be keen on creating an original film this time around and is aiming to give a fitting reply to critics, who discredited him for his past fiascoes and regain his lost glory with this Tamil-Telugu bilingual.
With an interesting title, a bankable lead, and a director out to reinvigorate his cinematic spirit, Beggar is one of the most anticipated regional/pan-Indian film releases.
