Acclaimed director David Fincher may be working on a new "Squid Game" series as his next project for Netflix.
Sources told Deadline that while there has been speculation about Fincher's upcoming work for months, details about the English adaptation of the Korean-language original series, which premiered in 2021, remain vague.
Insiders also mentioned that Fincher, known for films like "Se7en," "Fight Club," "Zodiac," and "Gone Girl," may finish another film before committing to the "Squid Game" series, potentially in 2025. Netflix had no comments to give on this particular project.
The report comes just months before the premiere of the highly anticipated second season of "Squid Game," which will feature Lee Jung-jae reprising his role as Seong Gi-hun.

This project would be the first scripted series offshoot of "Squid Game." Netflix already has an unscripted series titled "Squid Game: The Challenge," which is based on the work of original show director Hwang Dong-hyuk and has been renewed for a second season. Additionally, a video game franchise is also part of the "Squid Game" universe.
