In addition to asking the court to stop providing spousal support for both parties, Courtney, who filed without legal counsel, has asked for joint custody of their 17-year-old son, Jacob Emerson.

This marks Thorne-Smith’s second marriage. From 2000 to 2001, she was married to geneticist Andrew Conrad; however, their marriage ended and the couple shared no children. She also dated co-star Andrew Shue while she was on Melrose Place. She discussed their post-breakup working relationship on the Still the Place podcast's August 5, 2024, episode. She said that although the breakup was "shockingly not weird," they did set clear on-set rules, such as a "no tongue" rule during kissing scenes between their characters.
