Renowned Bengali actor Jeet will be seen playing a tough IPS officer, Arjun Maitra, in the new political thriller Khakee: The Bengal Chapter. In an exclusive interview with Moneycontrol recently, Jeet talked about his experience working on the popular web series.
With a career spanning over more than two decades, Jeet is an established name and is considered one of the most versatile actors in the Bengali film industry.
During the course of the interview, Jeet said it was his dream, or rather, it would be any actor's wish to share screen space with Bengali veteran actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.
On working with Prosenjit in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, Jeet calls it one of the highlights of his career. In the interview, Jeet shared his admiration for Prosenjit and said, "Working with Prosenjit was amazing. Amazing. I've been looking forward to working with Bumba da. We both have been mutually looking forward to working with each other."
An enthusiastic Jeet said it was a delight working with Prosenjit. "He's been there for so many years. Everybody would love to share a screen with him." Jeet said this experience has not only been a dream come true for him but also a valuable learning opportunity.
What made him agree to playing Arjun Maitra
In Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, which is the second part of Neeraj Pandey's Khakee series, Jeet plays the lead role of a tough and honest IPS officer, showcasing his impressive acting skills.
When asked about his experience working on the series and what pulled him towards the role of Arjun, Jeet said, "The intellect part of the IQ of the character, that was penned well by the writers, I guess, and that helped me to drive it. And definitely with the help of the two directors who were always there on the floor—Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti. So with such a wonderful craft around, I think so, like, comfortably enjoying the process. So I enjoyed it thoroughly."
Working in Hindi OTT
Talking about making his Hindi OTT debut with Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, Jeet says, "I enjoy doing Hindi, English, or any other language we are in."
"I've been living as an artist, as an actor for quite some time now and not, like, compared to Bumba da (Prosenjit). Bumbada has been, like, there for the longest of the time. And I've been living this, doing this, and this is something which we are all passionate about. Most of us use film in the show. We all are very passionate about the craft we are involved with. So, I enjoyed as much as I enjoy doing Hindi, English, or any other language, or if we are in any, so I enjoyed. And this I enjoyed all the more because we had a great energy on the sets always. From all departments, actors, technicians, and everybody. Everybody was so charged up with the show. So that made things much easier for all of us to sail through.
Talking about the rise of OTT platforms, Jeet said it has opened up new avenues for storytellers and newer talents. He said, "I think it's a better change, and it comes up with so many opportunities for storytellers and talents."
With his impressive body of work and dedication to his craft, Jeet has solidified his position as one of the leading actors in the Bengali film industry. As he continues to take on new challenges and explore different roles, fans can expect to see more of his exceptional talent in the years to come.
Born on November 30, 1978, in Kolkata, Jeet began his acting career in the early 2000s and made his debut with a Bengali film, 'Champion,' in 2003, which marked the beginning of a successful journey.
Over the decades, Jeet has worked in many Bengali films, including 'Nater Guru,' 'Sangee,' 'Boss,' and 'Awara,' to name a few. His performances have earned him widespread recognition and critical acclaim.
Khakee: The Bengal Chapter will stream on Netflix on March 20. Besides Jeet, it also stars Prosenjit, Chitrangada Singh, Saswata Chatterjee, Ritwik Bhowmick, and Aadil Khan, to name a few.
