GFRIEND has set the record straight about their alleged disbandment during their recent appearance on KBS’ music program The Seasons with Lee Young Ji.
The group, which parted ways with Source Music in 2021 following the release of their final track under the agency, MAGO, clarified that their separation was due to a contract expiration, not a disbandment.
"Many articles used the word 'disbandment,' so many people think we disbanded, but we didn't disband. It was a contract expiration," GFRIEND explained on the show. Host Lee Young Ji supported their clarification, emphasising, "Everyone, it's not disbandment."
Since their contract expiration, fans have been under the impression that the group had concluded their K-pop journey. However, GFRIEND's recent reunion and clarification have reignited excitement and hope for a full-fledged comeback in the future.
Marking their 10th debut anniversary, GFRIEND has reunited to release a special single album, Seasons of Memories, set to drop on January 13, 2025. This is part of their commemorative activities, which also include a three-night concert series at Seoul's Olympic Hall from January 17 to 19.
In preparation for these celebrations, GFRIEND has been making promotional appearances on major music shows like Music Bank, Show! Music Core, MCountdown, and Inkigayo. These events mark the group’s first coordinated activities in four years, since their hiatus in 2021.
GFRIEND debuted in 2015 with their mini-album Season of Glass, instantly capturing attention with their title track Glass Bead. Over the years, they built a reputation for delivering chart-topping hits like Me Gustas Tu, Sunrise, and Love Whisper.
