Eric Dane is turning a deeply personal battle into a call for action. The Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy star revealed in a new video that he is living with ALS, while pushing for an ambitious $1 billion research drive.
The actor, 52, shared the clip on Instagram on September 15, just a day after he missed the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, where he had been scheduled to present with former co-star Jesse Williams.
Eric’s ALS Video Message
In the video, Eric introduced himself plainly: “I’m Eric Dane. An actor, a father and now a person living with ALS.” His speech was slowed, one of the devastating effects of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that progressively destroys motor neurons.
“For over a century, ALS has been incurable, and we’re done accepting the status quo. We need the fastest path to a cure,” Eric said, stressing urgency as he announced his partnership with advocacy group I Am ALS on its Push for Progress initiative.
The campaign’s goal is to raise $1 billion over the next three years to fast-track treatments and expand access for patients worldwide.
Life With ALS
The ALS Association explains that as motor neurons die, patients gradually lose the ability to move, eat, speak and, eventually, breathe. Eric acknowledged that harsh reality while vowing to fight back.
“This initiative aims to get promising treatments for thousands of patients like me and finally push toward ending the disease,” Eric said.
The post captioned, "We're thrilled to announce Push for Progress, a groundbreaking campaign to accelerate ALS research, expand access to treatments, and secure $1 billion in federal funding for ALS over the next three years."

"I AM ALS—called the 'most successful patient advocacy movement of the 21st century—is launching this campaign now because ALS is at a tipping point. New treatments are within reach, but thousands of people living with ALS will lose access unless we take action."
Determination to Keep Acting
Eric first shared his diagnosis in April and later told E! News in June that he won’t let ALS silence his career just yet. He’s currently starring in the Amazon Prime Video series Countdown.

“I’m going to ride this till the wheels fall off,” Eric said at the time. “Keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.”
Eric, who shares two children with his ex-wife Rebecca Gayheart, closed his latest video with a simple, urgent reminder: the fight against ALS needs everyone’s support.
