J Hope makes history

K-pop fans had plenty to cheer this week as J-Hope of BTS picked up one of Korea’s most prestigious honours. The rapper, dancer and songwriter won Best Singer at the 52nd Korean Broadcasting Awards, becoming the first solo artist in nine years to claim the title — and the first BTS member to do so individually.

The ceremony was held on 3 September at Seoul’s SBS Prism Tower, but J-Hope wasn’t present to receive the trophy in person. The host acknowledged his absence, saying: “Congratulations to J-Hope, the global artist who has imprinted K-pop on the world. Unfortunately, due to schedule conflicts, he could not be here today, but we will make sure this precious trophy is delivered to him.”

That didn’t dampen the celebrations. Fans, known as ARMY, quickly flooded social media with messages of pride and joy. Comments like “WELL DESERVED, he definitely served and slayed this year” and “Our sunshine Hobi keeps making history” were written all across platforms.

J-Hope's solo work, from his Jack in the Box project to high-profile collaborations, has consistently pushed the boundaries of K-pop artistry, and his recognition as Best Singer highlights how BTS members are forging unique identities even as they continue to be a part of one of the biggest groups in the world.
