Salman Khan opened up about his heartfelt bond with Bollywood legend Dharmendra during the ‘Da-Bangg Tour’ in Qatar, giving fans a touching glimpse into the personal connection that has influenced his life and career.
His remarks came shortly after Dharmendra, 89, was discharged from hospital, offering relief to admirers who had been concerned about the veteran actor’s health.
Speaking to the audience, Salman didn’t hold back. “Mere aane se pehle ek hi shaks the woh hain Dharam ji (Before me, there was just one person and he was Dharam ji),” he said, praising
Dharmendra as his ultimate inspiration, especially when it came to physical fitness and persona.
Turning emotional, he added, “He is my father, that's the end. I love that man, and I just hope that he will come back.” Fans erupted in cheers, shouting “long live Dharam ji,” a testament to the enduring love both stars share with their audience.
The warmth between Salman and Dharmendra has always been visible. Dharmendra has previously called Salman his own son, saying, “Waise main toh kahunga, yeh mera beta hai. Mere teen bete hain — teeno jazbaati hain, khuddar hain, transparent hain (I would say this is my son. I have three sons — all three are emotional, self-respecting, and transparent).”
Their bond, filled with mutual respect and affection, is a rare glimpse of family-like ties in the glitzy world of Bollywood.
Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on 31 October due to breathlessness but was discharged on 12 November to continue his recovery at home.
Doctors urged fans and media to respect the family’s privacy. Salman was among the first to visit the veteran star, showing the care and love he holds for his mentor.
The actor’s family released a statement, saying, “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family's privacy during this time. We appreciate everyone's love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you.”
