Tiger Shroff is stepping into a new territory with Baaghi 4 — and it’s a bold one. Known for his clean-cut action roles that appeal to audiences across all age groups, Tiger is now fronting his first Adults Only film.
But despite the 'A' certificate, the film’s intensity was too much even for the censor board, which demanded a sweeping set of changes before allowing its release.
Certified by the CBFC on August 26, just days ahead of its September 5 global release, Baaghi 4 underwent 23 cuts — visual and audio — after the Examining Committee found several moments too graphic or sensitive for even an adult audience. And some of those edits were pretty drastic.
Among the first to go were scenes the board deemed offensive or disturbing: a shot of Tiger’s character standing on a coffin, a cigarette being lit from a niranjan diya, and even a hand resting on a girl’s hip were altered or deleted. A nude shot was covered up, and a particularly grisly moment — where a cigarette is lit from an amputated hand — was removed entirely.
Religious imagery also came under the scanner. A sequence involving a knife being thrown at a statue of Jesus Christ, followed by the statue leaning, didn’t make the final cut.
Across the board, scenes of extreme violence were toned down — from three throat-slitting shots to graphic sword fights and an 11-second stretch of brutal violence. A moment where a sword is driven into a skull? Gone.
Dialogue too faced the scissors. Several expletives and suggestive phrases were either muted or softened. “Bhang b***a” was changed, “be” and “fingering” (spoken by police characters) were modified, and “condom” was muted from a punchline. Entire lines were either edited or removed — including “Woh bhi darta hai mujhse” and “Don khoke, ekdum ok”.
Initially clocking in at 2 hours, 43 minutes and 50 seconds, the film was finally cleared with an ‘A’ certificate. But even after CBFC approval, the makers returned on August 29 to trim the film further — cutting 19 sequences and reducing the runtime by 6 minutes and 45 seconds. The final runtime now stands at 2 hours, 37 minutes and 5 seconds.
