Amitabh Bachchan's Don director Chandra Barot dies at 86, Farhan Akhtar pays tribute

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot was battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years. He died on Sunday, July 20.

Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot passed away on Sunday. He was 86. He was best known for directing the 1978 cult classic Don starring Amitabh Bachchan.

Chandra Barot’s wife, Deepa Barot, confirmed his death to TOI. She told the outlet, “He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years.”

Deepa Barot further revealed that he was undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Hospital under the care of Dr Manish Shetty. He was previously admitted to Jaslok Hospital.

However, Farhan Akhtar took to his social media to pay tribute to the veteran filmmaker. He shared a photo of the filmmaker and penned, “Saddened to learn that the director of the OG Don is no more. RIP Chandra Barot-ji. Deepest condolences to the family.”
Chandra Barot’s career spanned decades. Before Don, he started working as an assistant director with actor-filmmaker Manoj Kumar, who passed away a few months ago.
