Actor Akshay Kumar has once again stepped forward in a time of crisis, donating Rs 5 crore towards the ongoing flood relief work in Punjab. The northern state is currently grappling with one of the worst floods in its history, which has displaced thousands of families, damaged infrastructure, and left large areas submerged under water. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway, and Akshay’s contribution is expected to provide significant support to those in need.
Over the years, Akshay has built a reputation for being among the most socially responsible celebrities in the country, consistently extending help during natural calamities and national emergencies.
Back in 2019, Akshay had contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during the Odisha Cyclone, ensuring timely aid reached affected communities.
Punjab’s floods have triggered a statewide humanitarian crisis, with thousands forced into makeshift shelters and agricultural land facing devastation. Relief camps are struggling with shortages of essential supplies like food, clean water, and medicines.
Many actors who belong to Punjab including singer Diljit Dosanjh, Sonu Sood, Gippy Grewal and others have started sending relief material to the flood hit Punjab.
Yesterday, singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh also showed his complete support for the affected families in Punjabi. He shared a video expressing his solidarity and concern for the people in the state and said that "we all stand" with them.
Taking to his Instagram, he posted a video, saying, "...The situation in Punjab is very bad due to floods. People have lost their homes. Crops have been destroyed. Animals, cows, and buffalo have died. People's lives have been ruined. Punjab is wounded, but not defeated. Hum Punjab ki gond se uthe hai, Pujnab ne hume gond liya hai aur humne Punjab ki gond mein hi marna hai(We have risen from the lap of Punjab. Punjab has adopted us. And we have to die in the lap of Punjab."
He continued, "We want to tell all those who are suffering that we are with them. Aesa nahi raashan paani dekar ye baat khatam ho jaayegi. Jab tak unki zindagi dubara shuru nahi ho jaati hum sab unke saath hai (Until their lives are restored, we are with them.) All the local NGOs, all the local Punjab media are doing a great job. I would like to thank them too. They are doing a great job on the ground. And the youth of Punjab has come forward and is handling the situation. I would like to thank everyone. All the resources I have, all the corporate houses I know, our team has talked to them. Everyone is ready to help Punjab. They all want to come forward. We will get out of this problem..."
"Mai ardaas karta hu parmatma ke aage ki hum sabki itni shakti de ki hum sab bhai behan mil ke is musibat se bahar aa jaaye (I pray to God that he gives us so much strength that we all brothers and sisters come out of this problem together.) Aur ek baar fir se vo zindagiyan dubara khadi ho sake (And once again, those lives can be restored). I love and respect everyone. If I have said something wrong, if I have hurt anyone, forgive me if I have said anything wrong."

Many actors have also adopted villages affected in Punjab.
The Punjab government has declared all 23 districts flood-hit following heavy rainfall and swollen rivers. About 1,48,590 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged, with over 1,400 villages flooded and more than 3.5 lakh people affected.
Gurdaspur is the worst-hit district with 324 villages impacted, followed by Amritsar (135 villages) and Hoshiarpur (119 villages). The central government has deployed two assessment teams to evaluate the damage. (With PTI Inputs)
