Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday told the outgoing Union cabinet that leaders should work for the country and its citizens notwithstanding the political numbers game, according to News18.
“Numbers game will go on. You keep working for the nation and society,” he said in a meeting of the outgoing cabinet, according to the sources. “Good work has been done for 10 years. That has to be taken forward,” he said.
According to News18, the PM was buoyant at the cabinet meeting and told his colleagues not to be disheartened with the results. "You win some, you lose some," said PM Modi, as per News 18.
The PM was speaking a day after his National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won 292 of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, 20 more than the majority mark. His Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged 240 on its own. Modi could take oath as the Prime Minister for a record third term over the weekend, with the NDA looking set to form the government.
Earlier on Wednesday, the PM and his Union cabinet ministers went to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit their resignation. Later, NDA partners, including the Telugu Desam Party’s Chandrababu Naidu and the Janata Dal (United)’s Nitish Kumar, met in the afternoon. Naidu, whose party won 16 seats, and Kumar, whose party bagged 12, are in the limelight and expected to feature prominently in government formation talks.
