Royal Enfield will introduce its electric mobility brand, Flying Flea, in India in FY27, according to Managing Director of Eicher Motors and Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan. The company plans to roll out the brand overseas first, followed by an India launch separated only by a small time gap.
The Flying Flea brand's maiden product, the classic-styled FF.C6, was unveiled at the foremost two-wheeler event, the International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA) in Milan, Italy, in 2024. The FF.C6 electric motorcycle features a girder fork suspension, forged aluminium frame and a magnesium battery case with a finned design. It uses a round touchscreen cluster and Flying Flea's in-house software and vehicle control unit.
The second product, the scrambler-styled FF.S6, was revealed at EICMA 2025. The FF.S6 electric motorcycle is a city-plus explorer with an upside-down front fork, staggered wheels and long-travel suspension. It runs Flying Flea's connected tech stack with switchable ABS, navigation and a Snapdragon-based system. Riders get app and smartwatch connectivity.
Govindarajan described Flying Flea as Royal Enfield's in-house electric urban mobility initiative built around lightweight platforms and a high-tech user experience.
"Flying Flea is our in-house brand, our take on electric vehicle (EV) urban mobility, which is a city and city plus. This brand is about lightweight products with superior technology, riding comfort and a different level of user experience. It is a high-tech brand that we wanted to bring in," Govindarajan told Moneycontrol during Eicher Motors' Q2 FY26 earnings conference call.
"Flying Flea actually helps us in bringing products capable of addressing concerns of people who are sometimes getting bored of scooters, and those who also feel that, for city conditions, they do not need a motorcycle. It is a combination. That is why we said that the Flying Flea's platform will be very good for us," he added.
The company intends Flying Flea to be a global brand. It currently boasts over 200 engineers in the United Kingdom and India working on developing motor, battery, battery management system and custom software, among others, for various electric models. An exclusive Flying Flea manufacturing space has been set up within Royal Enfield's manufacturing facility at Vallam Vadagal.
"The Flying Flea products that will be available outside India will be made available in India as well," Govindarajan said.
He observed, "What we have been thinking is that the launch outside India and in India, it is only a matter of a few months here and there. We are currently working on how to get the products into the market. We always look at one store in one particular country so that people get to use the product and then start looking at a pull."
Royal Enfield is finalising locations for Flying Flea stores overseas and in India. "There will be one store in Paris, one in London, one in Italy, like that. Even in India, we have finalised a few areas. It is in the process of cooking," he said.
The brand will initially operate as part of the existing Royal Enfield outlets but with a distinct identity. "To start with, Flying Flea will be part of our (Royal Enfield) store. But it will have its own retail identity and its own customer experience journey because it is getting nurtured. Flying Flea will have its own clear identity even in a store of Royal Enfield."
When asked when Flying Flea retail will start in India, Govindarajan replied FY27.
Although Royal Enfield's electric models are still to enter the market, the robust internal combustion engine (ICE) portfolio comprising models like the Hunter 350, Bullet 350, Classic 350, Meteor 350, Goan Classic 350, Scram 440, Guerrilla 450, Himalayan 450, Classic 650, Bear 650, Shotgun 650, Super Meteor 650, Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, helped the company record its highest-ever quarterly volumes at 3,27,067 units in Q2 FY26, up 45% year-on-year (y-o-y).
Fuelled by the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate rationalisation and robust festive demand, the company's volumes during the 33-day festive window from September 22 to October 24 jumped by almost 50% y-o-y.
"During this time, we actually did three product refreshes -- Meteor, Hunter and Guerrilla. We built inventory, and we actually did sessions with our dealers and aligned everybody, and we also produced more vehicles during this time, and that is why we were able to grow by 50% during the festive window. GST also added a layer to that. So the demand has been very good," Govindarajan said.
In GST 2.0, two-wheelers with an engine capacity of up to 350cc are in the 18% slab, while those above 350cc are in the higher 40% bracket. Earlier, two-wheelers attracted a GST of 28%, with no compensation cess on models with an engine capacity of up to 350cc and a 3% compensation cess on those above 350cc, resulting in the total tax incidence of 28% to 31%.
Although Govindarajan welcomed the move to reduce GST on two-wheelers with an engine capacity of up to 350cc to 18%, he noted that the company is engaging with the government with regard to the higher GST bracket of 40%.
"We have been engaging with the government agencies to see whether we can have one equal slab of 18%, because it will certainly help the 450cc and the 650cc segments to get a scale in India, thereby taking those products into international markets where there is a potential, which is truly a Make-in-India story," Govindarajan said.
Eicher Motors reported its best-ever quarterly performance in Q2 FY26. The company's profit after tax rose 25% y-o-y to Rs 1,369 crore, while revenue from operations jumped 45% y-o-y to Rs 6,172 crore, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) grew 39% y-o-y to Rs 1,512 crore.
