Tesla CEO Elon Musk has posted a new progress video of the Optimus humanoid robot, this time showing it running across a lab floor in what the company calls a new performance record. The original clip, shared by the Tesla Optimus account with the caption “Just set a new PR in the lab,” shows the robot jogging steadily while several other units stand in formation in the background. Musk reshared it moments later with the caption “Running robot,” prompting millions of views within hours.
The short clip highlights improved balance, coordination and gait control — areas Tesla has been refining over several iterations of the robot. Earlier demonstrations focused primarily on controlled walking, object handling and posture training, making this running motion a notable step forward.
Social media reacts to the robot’s new capability
The post quickly drew attention across X. Some users applauded the engineering progress, with AI researcher Lex Fridman calling the movement “incredible.” Others reacted humorously, imagining robot races or joking about Optimus learning kung fu — a reference to another user-generated video circulating under the post.
A few users also raised safety questions, recalling earlier discussions about limiting the robot’s speed until stability matured. Despite the mixed reactions, the demo reinforces Musk’s broader claim that Optimus could eventually become a key part of Tesla’s future, performing tasks that are repetitive, unsafe or labour-intensive.
