Everyday use brings higher risk
Phones are constantly exposed: 85% use them with wet or oily hands, whether cooking, commuting, or in rain. With 52% relying on smartphones for work and life routines, accidental damage translates into major disruption.
Repairs add hidden costs to ownership
Damage takes a financial toll too. 42% reported repair bills between Rs 2,001–5,000, one in five spent Rs 5,001–10,000, while 8% shelled out over Rs 10,000 — a sharp burden for something used every day.
Smartphone fragility fuels daily anxiety
Nearly 78% avoid using phones in rain, heat or near water due to fear of damage. Emotional responses are strong — 56% feel upset, 39% panic, and just 5% remain indifferent when their phones crack or fall.
Durability tied to data and peace of mind
It’s not just hardware loss — 72% worry about losing personal data like photos and contacts. Tellingly, 40% would pay over Rs 5,000 to recover data after device damage, underscoring durability’s link to peace of mind. The study was done by Oppo and Counterpoint Research.
