Gamers around the world experienced frustration late on June 26, 2025, as Steam—the popular digital gaming platform—suffered a sudden and widespread outage. According to Downdetector, user reports of problems surged dramatically around 11:52 PM IST, with over 4,900 reports logged in a short span, indicating a massive global disruption.
Steam outage details
The outage began gaining traction shortly before midnight, with most users unable to connect to servers, access the website, or make purchases. At the peak of the disruption, the number of problem reports soared from a baseline of 8 to 4,988. This sharp spike, visualised clearly on Downdetector’s 24-hour report graph, marked one of the most significant service drops for Steam in recent months.
Steam’s live outage map showed red zones across North America, Europe, and parts of Asia, indicating that the issue was not regional but global in nature. As of now, Valve, the parent company behind Steam, has not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption.

Downdetector’s breakdown of the reported issues reveals that 45% of users encountered server connection problems, 28% were unable to access the Steam website, and 27% faced issues making purchases.
