Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit is set to begin on September 23, and the chipmaker is expected to introduce its next-generation flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which is the successor to the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. However, a new leak suggests that one more flagship-level processor is reportedly in the works, which could be dubbed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5: What to expect?
Popular Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS) took to Weibo to reveal details about the upcoming high-end chipset from Qualcomm, which will arrive as a flagship-grade offering in the Snapdragon 8 series, with the model number SM8845. This chipset could be named the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, and will bear the model number SM8845. While its launch date remains under wraps, there is a possibility that we could see it unveiled alongside the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at the Snapdragon Summit next month.
Moreover, the tipster suggests that it will not be an iteration of the existing Snapdragon processors, including the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 or the current flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite. Further, like the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, it’s said to be built on TSMC’s advanced N3P process and use Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU cores. Hence, it is likely to come with an octa-core architecture and will have the Adreno 830 GPU.
Recent reports have revealed that the Redmi K90 could be the first phone to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Apart from this smartphone, we can expect this SoC to be used for late 2025 and/or early 2026 Honor and Realme flagship smartphones
