With SIM card fraud on the rise, it’s possible someone might be using your identity—especially your Aadhaar number—to register a mobile connection without your knowledge. To tackle this, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a simple tool on the Sanchar Saathi portal under its TAFCOP system. This service allows users to quickly check how many mobile numbers are registered using their ID.
As per government rules, one Aadhaar number can be linked to a maximum of nine active SIMs across India, and up to six in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam, and the North Eastern states.
Steps to Check SIMs Linked to Your Aadhaar
To see how many SIMs are registered using your ID:
Visit the Sanchar Saathi portal: sancharsaathi.gov.in
Scroll to ‘Citizen Centric Services’ and select ‘Know Your Mobile Connections’
Enter your 10-digit mobile number and captcha code
You will receive an OTP on your phone—enter it
A list of all mobile numbers linked to your ID (such as Aadhaar) will appear
Found an Unknown SIM? Do This
If you find any number that isn’t yours, select “Not My Number” to raise a request for disconnection. You can also select “Not Required” for any inactive or unused SIMs you no longer need. Once verified, the unwanted numbers will be deactivated. If there are more than nine SIMs registered to your Aadhaar, you will also be alerted via SMS.
