The TWS earbuds space is full of options, especially in the entry-level segment. There are options available from established players too. In this crowded space, a relatively new entrant called Sault has come up with its own offering with it's On the Grind TWS earbuds.
The earbuds are priced at Rs 1,499 on the brand's official website and for the asking price, the company claims to offer a range of features including detailed and clear output, good battery life and compatibility with iPhone and Android devices. Apart from that, the earbuds also come with IPX6 rating, built-in touch sensors and dedicated gaming mode.
We used On the Grind TWS earbuds for a while and here’s our review.
Design
Sault’s On the Grind TWS earbuds features sort of a rugged design with textured patterns on either side of the charging case. The case itself is slightly different – has cylindrical—design with flat sides. The entire case is built out of plastic and the quality feels alright. It’s good enough for Rs 1,499. There’s a small strip in between that has the Sault logo mentions. We were glad to see the USB Type-C charging port.
The flat hinge is sturdy and feels solid too. The opening and closing mechanism is smooth and the magnetic shut effect is satisfying.
Moving on to the earbuds, the plastic build continues here as well. The two-tone White and Grey pattern continues here as well. The stem design of the earbuds is slightly flat and is comfortable to hold. The earbuds, in design, look like other offerings in the market. The important part to note here is that it feels comfortable to wear and the lightweight design makes it more than usable even for longer durations.
Overall, the design of the On the Grind TWS earbuds is good enough for the asking price.
Audio quality, pairing and more
On the Grind comes equipped with 10mm drivers with HIFI music, at least that’s what the official website mentions. But, beyond that, the earbuds sound good. There’s good enough bass, the vocal clarity is acceptable too. Yes, the soundstage could have been wider, but it’s good enough for most needs.
We listened to a couple of Bollywood titles and found that the sound signature is rich and vibrant, and the tuning has been done to deliver bass heavy output which the price segment buyers love.
Latency is also well optimised here and we noticed no lag or delay while watching videos. We also played some games with these earbuds and with the gaming mode, the latency improves even more and offers good response time between action and sound travel.
Also, there’s a little bit of distortion when you crank up the volume all the way to maximum and it loses the clarity and even bass starts overpowering a little. We found 80% volume as the sweet spot. At this volume, almost everything feels right at home.
The connection range is also good. The earbuds come with Bluetooth v5.3 and the connection quality are good up to 10 metres.
Battery life
Sault claims 15 hours of music playback in a single charge including the charging cae. We used it continuously at around 80% volume and it lasted for around 13 hours of playback. The charging from 0 to 100% takes around 35 minutes.
Verdict
At Rs 1,499, the On the Grind TWS earbuds can be a good option for those looking for heavy bass output and on a tight budget. Sure, there are alternatives in the market. But the unique case design and slightly rugged nature of the case gives a slight edge over the completion.
