Samsung’s latest foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, has shown exceptional structural strength despite its ultra-thin design in JerryRigEverything’s intense durability test.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 durability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has just aced one of the internet’s most famous durability tests, as tech YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything put Samsung’s latest ultra-thin foldable through his famous stress tests, including the dreaded bend test, where it came out unscathed with no cracks or creases on its inner display.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 bend claims
In the video, it was confirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be able to withstand a forceful bend attempt, as the company's redesigned hinge remained intact at the end of the torture test. Samsung also claims that the device can last more than 500,000 folds, which means almost a decade of usage if you open and close the smartphone 150 times per day.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 IP rating
While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn’t offer a traditional IP68 rating like regular candybar smartphones, it does have an improved IP48 rating for dust protection. The ‘4’ denotes that the phone can handle dust or solid objects 1mm or larger. In the video, Nelson sprinkles fine dust over the hinge and inner screen, and to everyone’s surprise, the phone’s hinge continued to function smoothly, without any visible damage.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 scratch test
The inner screen of the Fold 7 does have some limitations, as in the scratch test, the inner foldable display started scratching at Level 2, meaning it’s highly prone to accidental scratches. However, the main cover display showed minor scratches at Level 7, meaning its Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection can withstand scratches much better, like other single-screen phones.
