OpenAI has begun rolling out a redesigned ChatGPT experience that combines the app’s popular voice mode with the main text interface. Instead of switching between two separate modes, users can now simply start talking inside any chat and watch responses appear as text, audio or visuals in real time.

The new design brings some practical upgrades. ChatGPT Voice can now display map results while you are speaking, something the older voice mode couldn’t do. A full transcript of the conversation appears inside the chat window too, making it easier to scroll back, review details or switch between reading and listening naturally.

For users who still prefer a pure audio experience, OpenAI has included an option to restore the previous voice-only mode. A toggle in the app settings lets you revert to the classic layout, though this older design will likely be replaced eventually as the unified mode matures.

The update is rolling out to all users on mobile and the web. Once your app is updated, ChatGPT Voice works straight inside the chat window, allowing seamless back-and-forth conversation without ever changing modes.
