OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is expanding its presence in India and is on the lookout for new talent. The company is set to open its first office in New Delhi later this year, although the exact location hasn’t been revealed yet. This move marks an important step in OpenAI’s commitment to building AI for India and making advanced AI more accessible across the country.
Currently, OpenAI has listed three job openings in India, all in sales:
–Account Director, Digital Natives
–Account Director, Large Enterprise
–Account Director, Strategics
Applying is simple. Interested candidates can visit OpenAI’s careers page, find the role they want, and click on “Apply Now.” Everything is handled online, so you don’t need to know the office location to start your application.
OpenAI’s India expansion comes as the country becomes a critical market for ChatGPT. The company recently launched its cheapest monthly plan yet at $4.60, targeting nearly one billion internet users in the world’s most populous nation. India also has the largest population of student users on ChatGPT, and weekly active users in the country have quadrupled over the past year.
Despite its growth, OpenAI faces legal challenges in India, with some news outlets and book publishers accusing the company of using their content without permission to train ChatGPT—allegations OpenAI has denied. The company also faces strong competition from rivals like Google’s Gemini and the AI startup Perplexity, both offering advanced plans for free to many users in India.
“Opening our first office and building a local team is an important first step in our commitment to make advanced AI more accessible across the country and to build AI for India, and with India,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
With these new roles, OpenAI is signaling that India is a key focus for its growth, and it’s offering a unique chance for professionals to join one of the most talked-about tech companies in the world.
