Microsoft has decided to say final goodbyes to its Paint 3D app later this year by canning it permanently, as per a report by Windows Central. The Redmond-based tech giant will remove the Paint 3D app from the Microsoft Store within roughly three months from now. On the Microsoft Store, you won’t be able to download the Paint 3D app from November 4, 2024. Any updates that Microsoft had planned to release for Paint 3D will also be discontinued from November 4, 2024.

Although Microsoft has decided to retire the Paint 3D app and remove it from its online store, people who already have it or download it before November 4 will be able to use the app.

Microsoft launched the Paint 3D app in 2017. Some of the key features of the Paint 3D app include Magic Select, the 3D Doodle tool, real-life-based textures, filters, lighting options and the ability to publish your 3D art on Remix3D.com. Magic Select allows users to cut out parts from pictures and then stick them on their 3D models. Paint 3D users can also export videos showing how they made a certain design or model.

Microsoft’s Paint 3D app was supposed to be a replacement for the classic Windows Paint app. But it turned out that people were more comfortable using the classic Paint app and Microsoft had to go back on its decision to retire the classic Paint app. The tech giant had planned for an ecosystem of 3D-compatible software and devices like the Hololens, Paint 3D and Windows Phones, a plan which couldn’t come to fruition.
