Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4 is set to make a bigger impact — than its predecessors — on the market. Its projected shipments are expected to hit approximately 12 million units in the first half of 2025 and 10 million units in the second half, according to noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

These numbers suggest that the new SE model could outperform its predecessors, which typically shipped around 20 million units annually post-launch, said Kuo on a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The launch of the iPhone SE 4 is expected to help Apple mitigate the usual seasonal fluctuations in shipments. Additionally, the device is likely to play a key role in expanding the adoption of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s suite of AI-driven features, noted Kuo in his post. This positions the SE 4 as a more affordable gateway to Apple’s latest AI features.

One of the most anticipated features of the iPhone SE 4 is Apple’s in-house modem, marking a significant step towards reducing its reliance on Qualcomm. The inclusion of this proprietary modem represents a strategic shift for Apple, as it seeks greater control over its hardware ecosystem and network capabilities. However, this move may lead to legal complications, with Qualcomm reportedly preparing to scrutinise its modem patents in an effort to secure licensing fees from Apple, Kuo said.
