Apple has confirmed the launch of iPhone 17 series on September 9. Ahead of that leaks and rumours have already started surfacing online revealing big and small changes of the next-generation iPhones. A new rumour suggests that Apple is copying this Samsung feature that will allow users to charge other devices wirelessly using thir iPhones with the reverse wireless charging feature.
What the leaks suggest
A tipster on Weibo has claimed that Apple is running tests for reverse wireless charging on its upcoming flagship devices. Reports also suggest the company has explored 7.5W speeds for the feature. Several sources indicate that the internal testing phase is complete, though there is no confirmation yet on whether the option will appear in the final models of the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple’s earlier attempts
Although full wireless power sharing has never been enabled on iPhones, Apple has experimented with similar ideas before. In 2021, the MagSafe Battery Pack could draw power from an iPhone when connected to a Lightning cable. Later, with the move to USB-C on the iPhone 15 series in 2023, users could reverse charge small devices at up to 4.5W using a wired connection. Wireless implementation, however, has so far remained absent.
Positioning against rivals
If Apple enables reverse wireless charging, the iPhone 17 Pro models would match rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy S25 range and Google’s Pixel 10 phones, both of which already support the function. For users, the addition would mean the convenience of topping up accessories without carrying extra cables or power banks.
Expected launch
The iPhone 17 family is likely to be unveiled in September 2025, with production reportedly taking place entirely in India for the first time. Whether reverse wireless charging makes it to the Pro models will only be known at launch, but the feature could be a key update for Apple’s next-generation smartphones.
