Zombie survival game 'Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days' has a confirmed release date. The side-scrolling 2.5D zombie game will launch in early access on April 9 on Windows PC (via Steam), developer PikPok announced during the Future Games Show Spring Showcase.
Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days is the fourth game (and the second spin-off) in the series after Into the Dead (2012), Into the Dead 2 (2017) and the Netflix-exclusive spin-off Into the Dead 2: Unleashed (2022). The third mainline entry 'Into the Dead 3' is currently under development.
“Since revealing Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days in 2022, we’ve been thrilled by the response from fans. We’re honored to partner with the Future Games Show Spring Showcase to reveal that players can plan their trip to Walton on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, ” said PikPok CEO Mario Wynands in a press statement.
The fourth entry to the 'Into the Dead' franchise is set in Walton City, Texas. The year is 1980 and the coastal metropolis has been overrun by hordes of zombies. Few survivors remain, however, and among them, you'll find people who'll want to get to a rumoured safe zone. The zombie survival game features “a dynamic urban environment that changes over time, so every playthrough is a new experience”.
In this side-scrolling 2.5D game, you’ll “establish upgradable shelters” but these won't protect you forever and can be broken into by the undead. In the Dead: Our Darkest Days requires the player to scavenge for resources and keep moving to new safe locations as the zombies keep multiplying. Stealth is of utmost importance as “one loud noise” can attract the considerable numbers of the undead. The game allows you to craft tools and weapons to survive in a hostile world.
You’ll meet new characters who can be convinced to join your group. Conversely, there is also the choice to “deceive them out of supplies, or cut them down and claim their resources as your own”.
