A new nationwide study has found that Indians are turning to AI like ChatGPT and Gemini for help with… everyday overthinking.
The Center Fresh India Overthinking Report, conducted by YouGov, shows that 81% of Indians spend more than three hours a day overthinking. And this isn’t just about big life choices. From replying to a simple “Ok” from the boss, to choosing a dish at a restaurant or deciding whether a selfie deserves a story, people are second-guessing themselves constantly.
But in the age of AI, there’s a new coping mechanism: asking ChatGPT.
One in three respondents say they’ve consulted tools like Google or ChatGPT to resolve their spirals—whether it’s decoding a cryptic message, figuring out what gift to buy, or making a career move. In a world where decisions (and anxiety) are accelerated by digital life, AI has quietly become the unofficial therapist for a growing number of people.
The report reveals that social media is another big trigger, especially among Gen Z. Over 60% say they feel anxious when viewing stories, often delaying it to avoid looking too eager. Many admit to overthinking filters, captions, or even whether to post at all.
The study, covering Tier 1 to Tier 3 cities, suggests a universal mental clutter — one fuelled by constant notifications, social pressures, and information overload.
"By spotlighting this mental clutter, the report sparks a much-needed conversation about the importance of everyday mental clarity. Center Fresh, with its refreshing minty gel core, helps break that loop—reminding you to trust your instincts.” said Gunjan Khetan, Director, Marketing, Perfetti Van Melle India.
