The Delhi government has announced that traffic fines may be reduced to half for certain traffic violations as a part of a broader effort to improve vehicle movement in the city and speed up penalty settlement. People living in Delhi can now pay half the total amount of challan that they’ve against their vehicle and settle the amount.
People living elsewhere in the country also have the option to pay their challans using Pariwahan Sewa portal. However, it will only allow you to make a payment of the challan amount you’ve received.

Sounds interesting right? Well, government of India has a virtual court that lets users to contest an e-challan and make the payment. Not only that, but any challan that’s over 60 days old automatically moves to virtual court with a proposed amount.
How much amount can be reduced?
Well, there’s no exact number here. We tried it with Rs 500 challan which got reduced to Rs 100 and the Rs 3000 challan reduced to Rs 1000. However, do keep in mind that these are just a few examples. The actual amount that will be reduced depends on the virtual court and there’s no way to control it.

Check your challan first
The first thing you need to do is check if your car or bike has a challan. For this, you can either check the SMS you may have received or head to Pariwahan Sewa website or mPariwahan app and enter the asked details.
For vehicles registered in Delhi (DL registration), you can also check challan details on the Delhi Traffic Police website.
Enter your vehicle or challan number to view details like the fine amount, violation, and location.
Payment deadline
You have 60 days from the date of the fine to pay the challan online. If not paid within this period, the challan is transferred to the virtual court system automatically.
Access the virtual court portal
Go to the virtual court website: https://vcourts.gov.in/.
Select the state where your vehicle is registered.
Search your challan
Use your mobile number, CNR number, vehicle number, or challan number to search for your challan.
Enter the captcha and verify your identity via OTP sent to your registered phone number.
Check Your challan status and amount
After logging in, you will see all pending challans linked to your phone number.
Review the status and updated amount of each challan.
Choose to Pay or Contest
You can either:
Pay the fine: Select “I wish to pay the proposed fine.”
Contest the fine: If you believe the challan is incorrect, select “I wish to contest the case.”
Verification
Depending on your choice, verify your details through OTP (for payment or contesting).
If your mobile number is incorrect, you can verify using the vehicle’s engine and chassis numbers.
Make the payment
Once verified, you can pay the fine using net banking, credit/debit cards, or UPI.
Upon successful payment, you will receive a confirmation message.
Things to know
You can opt to move your challan to a virtual court before the 60-day period. To do so, search for your case, click on the 'View' option, and select "I wish to contest the case."
Reduced fine in virtual court
In certain cases, virtual courts reduce the challan amount. For example, an overspeeding fine of Rs 2,000 may be reduced to Rs 1,000.
Physical court option
If not settled within 90 days, the challan will escalate to a physical court, where legal proceedings will commence.
