Over the last few days, the Google Gemini AI application has shot up the ranks to become the most popular free app on iOS and Android, thanks to a new trending feature introduced with Gemini 2.5, named Nano Banana. This tool has reportedly been used to edit over 500 million images since its launch last month, with the Gemini app has reportedly gaining over 23 million new users in the last two weeks. Amid this growing popularity, Google has announced that India is among the leading countries using the Nano Banana AI model's capabilities.
India leads Gemini’s Nano Banana usage
David Sharon, Gemini Apps' Multimodal Generation Lead, through an interaction with the press, has revealed that India is among the leading countries using the Nano Banana AI model's capabilities. Sharon highlighted that a large number of Indian users have used Gemini AI to post images of themselves as figurines, where they are reimagined as action figures.
In the last few days, many Indians have also generated images with a retro look, where they are reimagined with the styles of the 1980s and 1990s. The Google executive has also confirmed that the Nano Banana AI tool has been created to let users make inline edits to images, without using complex editing software and commands.
Sharon also added that the Nano Banana image generation tool can be used for several other use cases, including turning 2D images into 3D effects, restoring old images, and the current trend of blending a user’s childhood photo and adult image.
