Google expands Gboard AI writing tools to all Android users, revamps Quick Share with new interface

Google has rolled out a series of updates alongside Android 16 QPR1, bringing the Pixel 10’s AI-powered writing tools to all Android devices and introducing a redesigned Quick Share interface.

Originally announced as a Pixel 10 exclusive, Gboard’s AI-powered writing tools are now available to non-Pixel users. The tools combine spellcheck with style-specific rewriting features, similar to capabilities seen in Gmail or Samsung’s software. Users can proofread, rephrase and elaborate messages, with all processing done on-device in the background. While the feature may not be essential for everyone, it offers practical help for those who want messages to sound more professional, polished or casual depending on context.

Quick Share, Google’s rebranded version of Nearby Share, has also received a major overhaul. Previously, it operated mainly in the background via the share sheet or quick settings toggle. The update transforms Quick Share into a more fully featured, standalone app. Users can now navigate tabs for sending and receiving content, quickly select accounts, locate nearby devices, and transfer multiple files simultaneously. The Receive tab provides progress bars for incoming content, with options to cancel or review transfers on the fly.

Other additions include the official rollout of browsable Emoji Kitchen stickers, first spotted in spring. This allows users to explore the full library without having to combine initial emoji pairs manually. Google has also introduced Bluetooth audio sharing with supported LE Audio devices, enabling friends to stream audio together.
