Bill Gates has been talking about AI for years, but now he’s made a bold prediction. He claimed during an interview that artificial intelligence is coming for two professions in particular and it includes doctors and teachers. According to him, this shift could happen in less than a decade.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, the Microsoft co-founder explained that AI is advancing so rapidly that it will soon be able to provide “great medical advice” and “great tutoring” for free. “Today, expertise in medicine and education is rare,” Gates said. “You need a great doctor, you need a great teacher. But over the next decade, AI will make those things available to everyone.”
Imagine living in a world where every student has a personal AI tutor, customized to their learning style, available 24/7. Or where anyone, anywhere, can get top-tier medical guidance without waiting for an appointment. Gates calls this era “free intelligence,” and he believes it will completly change healthcare and education.

Of course, not everyone is thrilled about the idea. AI taking over these roles raises big questions about job security. Will doctors and teachers still have a place in the future? Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, has warned that AI’s impact on jobs will be “hugely destabilizing.” In his book The Coming Wave, he writes: “These tools will only temporarily augment human intelligence... but they are fundamentally labor replacing.”

Gates, however, remains optimistic. He acknowledges the concerns but believes AI will ultimately improve lives by making essential services more accessible. “There will be some things we reserve for ourselves,” he assured Fallon. While AI might handle diagnosing diseases or explaining algebra, creativity, human connection, and entertainment will remain uniquely human. So, should teachers and doctors start worrying? Maybe not just yet—but it’s clear that AI is coming for some of their tasks.
