Setting the ball rolling for Bengaluru's ambitious airport suburban rail corridor, Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) on July 27 invited tender for the civil work on the KSR City-Yelahanka section.
This section is part of the 41-Km Sampige Line (KSR Bengaluru City–Yelahanka–Devanahalli), which connects to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) terminal.
K-RIDE, which is executing the suburban rail project, said Sampige corridor is divided into two segments: KSR Bengaluru City - Yelahanka (18 km) and Yelahanka - KIA- Devanahalli (23 km).
The tender work includes the design and construction of an elevated viaduct with a length of 14.5 km and an at-grade formation with a length of 3.5 km. It also includes the construction of seven station buildings at KSR Bengaluru City, Srirampura, Malleshwaram, Muthyala Nagar, Lottegolahalli, Kodigehalli, and Judicial Layout.
The other two stations in the section are Yeswanthpur interchange station, which is already covered in the Mallige Line (Byappanahalli Terminal – Chikkabanavara) station tender, and Yelahanka interchange, which is covered in the Kanaka Line (Heelalige – Rajanukunte).
Officials said tender is valued at Rs 1,422 crore and will be finalised by October. The deadline for completing the entire 148 km suburban rail project is December 2027.
Moneycontrol had earlier reported K-RIDE's plan to invite tenders for the airport line.

“We have floated the tender for Package 1 after receiving the NOC from the European Investment Bank (EIB). The tender for the remaining section from Yelahanka to Devanahalli, including the airport link, will be called within a month” said a K-RIDE official.
Travel time between KSR Bengaluru City and the airport, around 40 km, will be around one hour and seven minutes on the Sampige Line.

Of the four corridors, K-RIDE has awarded the civil work tenders for the Mallige Line (Byappanahalli Terminal – Chikkabanavara) and the Kanaka Line (Heelalige – Rajanukunte) to Larsen & Toubro at Rs 960 crore and Rs 1,040 crore, respectively.
K-RIDE is yet to invite tenders for the Parijaata Line (Kengeri – Whitefield) as it is still in discussions with South Western Railway on the alignment. K-RIDE wants to use a shared track between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield, where SWR is undertaking the quadrupling work.
