Apple is set to host its latest Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event from today at the company’s headquarters in California, with a keynote from CEO Tim Cook. It is one of the most anticipated WWDC events from the last few years, as it is expected to serve as the official push of the tech giant into the world of artificial intelligence (AI).
According to a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the highlight of WWDC 2024 will be the new generative AI-power Apple’s smart assistant Siri. With the help of AI, Siri is expected to control individual features within system apps, making it far more versatile than other voice assistants available globally.
The report also claims that the virtual assistant is being trained on a variety of prompts that are not direct and rely on contextual understanding. You can ask Siri to do custom actions and with the help of generative AI, Siri could provide you with everything from proactive tips to improved responses.
Gurman has also stated that Apple’s AI features, which could be renamed as ‘Apple Intelligence,’ will also power other Apple apps including Notes, Mail, Messages, Voice Memos, and more.
Previously, it has been rumoured that Apple has also held talks with OpenAI to license its ChatGPT software and use it to power Siri. However, this feature could have a subscription model and may be released by next year.
While AI and Siri are expected to be the top priorities at WWDC 2024, Apple will announce the full slate of features coming to its entire suite of operating systems, including iOS, iPad OS, macOS, and more.
