iPhone reverse charging

We are only two months into 2025 but the iPhone rumor mill is whirring in full swing. Expect more rumours to do the rounds in the next few months but do take them with a pinch of salt. While some of the leaks do prove accurate, quite a few of them are way off the mark.

The latest leak comes in the form of Apple reportedly testing a wireless reverse charging feature for its upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models, according to a Weibo-based leaker known as Instant Digital. This feature would enable the iPhone 17 Pro to deliver power to other Apple devices, such as AirPods, Apple Watch, or potentially an upcoming MagSafe Battery Pack.

The concept of reverse wireless charging has been around for a while. Apple first introduced a limited version of this feature with the MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 and newer models. When attached to an iPhone that was charging via Lightning, the iPhone could deliver power to the MagSafe Battery Pack. However, this feature was discontinued with the launch of the iPhone 15 models, which transitioned from Lightning to USB-C.

The new wireless reverse charging feature being tested for the iPhone 17 Pro models is expected to offer a 7.5W charging capability, according to a report by Macrumors. This would allow users to charge their Apple accessories wirelessly, providing greater convenience and flexibility.
