Apple launched its lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack dongle in order to provide users with the option to use their good old, wired headphones with the iPhone after it removed the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 lineup. It appears that Apple is phasing out this dongle as it is currently out of stock at Apple’s online stores across the globe.
MacRumors has reported that the Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack adapter is currently out of stock in the US and several other countries. Moneycontrol checked the Apple India website, and the adapter is “Sold Out” there as well. However, it is still being sold at several third-party authorised storefronts and in the offline market.
Why Apple may phase out the 3.5mm Lightning dongle
There can be multiple reasons Apple may have decided to pull the plug on this dongle. First, the company has phased out the Lightning port for all its devices, including iPhones, iPads, and even accessories. New iPhones now come with USB-C port. This means many people won’t be buying it considering they need a Type-C to 3.5mm dongle.
The second reason could be that most people have moved to TWS earbuds or wireless headphones to listen to audio using their phone or tablet.
There’s a Type-C version on sale
If someone wants to use their beloved wired earphones or headphones with the new iPhones or iPads, there’s the “USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter” on sale and it is currently available at Rs 900 via Apple’s official store as well as other online and offline retail stores.
