OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is preparing to expand its reach into professional networking and recruitment with the launch of an AI-powered jobs platform. Following its push into AI-driven search, the company is now setting its sights on LinkedIn by developing a hiring service designed to connect employers with workers who have proven AI expertise. The service, called the OpenAI Jobs Platform, is expected to debut in mid-2026.
AI-driven hiring system
According to OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo, the platform will use advanced AI systems to match job seekers with roles based on skills and employer requirements. Unlike traditional recruitment tools, the service is being built to optimize compatibility, ensuring businesses locate the right candidates while individuals discover opportunities that fit their experience.
The platform will also focus on smaller enterprises and local governments, not just large multinational corporations. By doing so, OpenAI aims to democratize access to AI-skilled professionals, helping organisations of all sizes compete in the race for talent.
Integration with certifications
The new service will tie into OpenAI Certifications, a credentialing system that verifies different levels of AI knowledge. From general workplace use to advanced prompt engineering, these certifications will serve as a signal of competency for employers. Training and credentials will be offered through the OpenAI Academy, a free online learning platform the company launched in 2024.
OpenAI has set an ambitious target to certify 10 million Americans by 2030, ensuring that a large workforce is equipped with AI skills that align with future market demands.
To make the platform effective, OpenAI is collaborating with several major companies and institutions. Early partners include John Deere, Walmart, Boston Consulting Group, and Accenture. The firm is also working with job boards such as Indeed and with state governments, including Delaware’s, to ensure its certification program aligns with industry requirements.
Pilot rollout and launch
Before the official mid-2026 release, OpenAI will begin pilot testing of the Jobs Platform alongside the late-2025 rollout of its certification program. These early trials will allow the company to refine the experience for both employers and job seekers.
