Shubman Gill is truly unstoppable at the moment. Leading from the front in his first series as Test captain, Gill has shown zero nervousness, instead he has dictated the show right from the word go at Headingley, Leeds. Alebit in a losing cause, Gill straightaway made his intentions clear that he isn't a pushover and going by his exceptional show it won't be wrong to say he now owns the "Prince" title given to him by fans.
After smashing a record 269 in the first innings of the Edgbaston Test, Gill continued his rich exploits and hammered yet another ton before falling against spinner Shoaib Bashir for 161. The effort helped Gill smash a 148-year-old Test record, making him the first batter to smash a double century and 150 in a single Test.

In fact Gill is the first Indian in 87 years to muster over 400 runs in a single Test. The right-handed batter amassed 430 runs, both innings combined, at Edgbaston, which is the second highest overall in the tally of most runs scored by a batter in a single Test. Only former England captain Graham Gooch is above the Indian with a world record 456 runs, which he scored against India in 1990. The daddy hundreds by Gill helped him overtake the likes of Mark Taylor, Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara in the list.
Meanwhile, Gill overtook Sunil Gavaskar in the process, who until now held the record for scoring the most runs by an Indian in a Test. The 'Little Master' held the record for 54 years after accumulating 344 runs against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971, which was his fourth Test.

VVS Laxman ranks third on the list with 340 runs against Australia, which he scored in the memorable 2001 Eden Gardens victory. Sourav Ganguly (330 runs vs Pakistan in 2007) and Virender Sehwag (319 runs vs South Africa in 2008) also feature in the list.
Gill also became the first Indian captain to score a double ton and a ton in the same Test. Gavaskar is the only Indian, who has managed this incredible feat but he wasn't the captain then. In fact, Gill is the only ninth player to score a double century and a century in the same match.
Meanwhile, Gill is the second player after Virat Kohli to notch three hundreds in his first two Tests as captain.
