At the IPL 2026 auction, CSK purchased Prashant Veer for Rs 14.20 crore, making him the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. Once Ravindra Jadeja was traded by Chennai Super Kings to Rajasthan Royals, the five-time champions were looking for a long-term replacement of their veteran all-rounder.

And as it has been the tradition, CSK went all the way to get that player. After an intense bidding war with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), CSK bagged Prashant Veer for Rs 14.20 crores. Veer, who had a base price of Rs 30 lakh, sparked a fierce bidding war before being sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 14.20 crore. Lucknow Super Giants opened the bidding, with Mumbai Indians briefly entering the race before pulling out at Rs 1.20 crore.

CSK then joined the contest against LSG, but the latter exited at Rs 4.20 crore. Rajasthan Royals stepped in next as the price climbed to Rs 6 crore, followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rs 6.80 crore. The bidding soon crossed the Rs 10 crore mark, with SRH and CSK locked in an intense duel, before CSK eventually outbid all rivals to secure the all-rounder for Rs 14.20 crore.

20-year-old left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Prashant Veer, who was first discovered while playing for the Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League, has also amassed a strong body of work at this year's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Before buying him at the auction on Tuesday, CSK had taken a closer look at him in trials, indicating that his growth has not gone unnoticed.
