SRH vs MI Highlights, IPL: Five-time champions Mumbai Indians did the double on last year’s finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad with a crushing seven-wicket victory at Hyderabad on Wednesday. MI registered their fourth win on the trot as they chased down the 144-run target with 26 balls to spare as the season went from bad to worse for SRH. The last time MI recorded four or more wins in a row was during their 2020 campaign, when they went on to win the IPL title.
Here are the five points that proved decisive in the outcome of the match and enabled Mumbai Indians jump to the third spot on the points table...
Ishan Kishan’s bizarre dismissal
Ishan Kishan’s bizarre dismissal that sent social media into overdrive will be talked for a long time to come. Kishan walked off after supposedly edging a Deepak Chahar delivery down the leg side into the hands of the keeper Ryan Rickelton. Even though there was no appeal from the MI players, the umpire adjudged it out, Kishan walked off without going for a review and the replays showed that there was no edge off the bat.
SRH top order failure
The glaring reason for SRH disastrous performance this season has been the flop show of their top order. Wednesday was no different as the top four batsmen Travis Head (0), Abhishek Sharma (8), Ishan Kishan (1) and Nitish Reddy (2) all fell for single digit scores.
It was only because of Heinrich Klaasen’s 44-ball 71 and Abhinav Manohar’s 37-ball 43 that SRH could put up 143 runs on the board.
Wrecker-in-chief Trent Boult
Trent Boult’s four-wicket haul was instrumental in restricting SRH to a below-par score of 143/8. Boult started the carnage with the dismissal of Head in the second over and followed it up with the wicket of Abhishek in his next over. Boult returned in the attack to dismiss Abhinav Manohar and captain Pat Cummins in the last over of SRH innings.
Rohit continues ‘hitman mode’
Rohit Sharma made his name as a player in the IPL playing for Deccan Chargers before moving to Mumbai Indians in 2012, and the rest, as they say, is history. Rohit showed that he is back in imperious form by smashing back-to-back fifties – the last time he had done so in the IPL was in 2016. The former MI captain, again playing as an Impact Player, reached the mark in 35 balls.
Rohit smashed 3 sixes and 8 fours in his 46-ball 70 before falling, against the run of play, to Eshan Malinga in the 15th over.
Another SKY special
Suryakumar Yadav sealed the victory that was set up by the bowlers and Rohit Sharma, playing the supporting role to the hilt. SKY toyed with the SRH bowling and brought up the 50-run stand for the third wicket with Rohit off 30 balls. SKY slammed 2 sixes and 5 fours in his unbeaten 40-run knock that came off just 19 balls and finished off the match with a boundary.
