India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant did not take the field on Day 2 of the third Test against England at Lord’s. According to the BCCI, Dhruv Jurel will continue behind the stumps as Pant remains under the supervision of the medical team. The wicketkeeper-batter had suffered a blow to his index finger during the opening day’s play.
"Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2," the BCCI said just minutes before the start of Day 2.

The BCCI released a statement shortly after, saying:

Pant picked up the injury on Day 1 while diving to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah that drifted down the leg side in the 34th over. The ball struck the tip of his index finger, causing immediate discomfort. Despite receiving on-field treatment and pain-relief spray, the pain persisted. He chose to leave the field after the over, first receiving attention near the boundary before heading to the dressing room.
India remain hopeful that their vice-captain will be fit to bat. Since the injury occurred during play and is external, Pant will be permitted to bat in his regular No. 5 position if cleared by the medical team. He has been a vital part of the batting lineup this series, already scoring two centuries and a half-century in four innings.
